Hydrogen Sulfide Sensor Variant A

The Prana Air CO sensor uses advanced electrochemical technology to detect carbon monoxide (CO) in the air. It works by taking a small sample of air and reacting with it inside the sensor. When CO is present, a chemical reaction happens that creates a small electric current. The strength of this current shows how much carbon monoxide is in the air — the more CO, the stronger the signal.

Sensor Calibration

Calibration means checking if the sensor gives correct readings by comparing it to a trusted standard. This helps make sure the sensor is accurate. To do this, the sensor is tested with a known amount of hydrogen sulfide gas. A special gas cylinder, approved by NIST (a trusted standards organization), is used for this purpose. The sensor is usually calibrated in normal room conditions—around 23°C temperature, 50% humidity, standard air pressure, and a light breeze. If these conditions change, the sensor's readings might change a little too. But don't worry—the sensor can adjust to keep the results accurate.

What is Hydrogen sulfide?

Ammonia source image

Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) is a colourless gas that smells like rotten eggs. It is toxic, flammable, and harmful to both the environment and human health. Breathing in this gas can cause irritation to the eyes, nose, and throat. It may also lead to headaches, dizziness, and nausea. Long-term or high-level exposure can be very dangerous and may cause shock, coma, or even death. H₂S is commonly found in places like wastewater treatment plants, crude oil, hot springs, volcanic areas, and anywhere there is decaying organic matter from humans or animals.

What technology is being used in (H₂S) Sensor?

Technology working image

The H₂S sensor uses electrochemical technology, which is one of the most reliable ways to measure hydrogen sulfide gas in the air. Air enters the sensor and passes over special parts called electrodes and an ion conductor. When hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) gas touches the sensor, it reacts with a liquid inside (called an electrolyte). This reaction creates water and ions (tiny charged particles). These ions produce a small electrical current. The strength of this current tells us how much H₂S gas is in the air—the more gas, the stronger the current
